Biographical Statement:

As a child in Massacusetts I loved to draw and paint, especially with an artist neighbor who welcomed me on Saturday mornings. After earning a bachelor's degree in art from Smith College, I taught in Florida, then many years later in Switzerland, and again in Florida (after my Norwegian husband and I had raised our three children in Norway and Switzerland). When I could, I painted. I did portraits of neighborhood children, landscapes, and increasingly expressionistic interpretations of the world around me. Form and color and ideas excited me. When I returned to Melbourne, Florida, in 2002, I worked with Carol Peters and Fritz van Eeden as they demonstrated experimental techniques. My spirit soared with new artistic freedom. I began incorporating various materials into acrylic paint to enhance texture. Paintings would often take on a life of their own. My job was to rein them in. Sometimes I had a specific motif in mind, but often, the development of layers of color and texture would suggest the subject.

In 2005, after many years in New England, Norway, Switzerland, and Florida, I moved to Utah's Cache Valley to be near family. In Utah, I have been participating in the Cache Valley branch of the Utah Watercolor Society. Utah mentors and teachers have included Michael Bingham, Joseph Alleman, Joyce Baron, and Dennis Smith. At Dennis's Alpine Art Group, I have been focusing on the human figure. Painting the model in an unexpected setting of shape and color helps me to express a mood or feeling.

I have been privileged to live in places of spectacular natural beauty. And, I have traveled extensively throughout Europe, the US, and Peru. Throughout my travels, music and spiritual searching have always been important parts of my life. Through my paintings, I share my sensitivity to the beauty and the paradoxes around me.
